IT'S PROBABLY NOT A PITBULL?

Type in “Pit Bull” on Tumblr search and I don’t find a single dog that is actually a Pit Bull.
So, here are some quick tips to help the world of Tumblr know what the hell breed of dog you don’t own.
Quick points to help:
-If your dog is “blue”/”blue nose”, it is most likely NOT a Pit Bull
-If your dog is over 65lbs, it is most likely NOT a Pit Bull
-If your dog is “Razorsedge”, “Gotti”, “Gator Mouth”, it is NOT a Pit Bull
-If your dog is ABKC or AKC registered, it is NOT a Pit Bull
-If your dog is UKC registered, it is most likely NOT a Pit Bull (despite what the papers may say)
-If you adopted your dog from a shelter, it is most likely NOT a Pit Bull
-If you bought your dog off Craigslist, it is most likely NOT a Pit Bull
-If you ‘rescued’ your dog off the street, it is most likely NOT a Pit Bull

Over 90% of dogs claimed to be “Pit Bulls” are NOT in fact Pit Bulls. No matter what your shelter says, what your ‘papers’ say, what your backyard breeder says, what your family says, what your friends say. Learn the breed, because I doubt you own a Pit Bull.
If your dog does not meet the following criteria, do not call it a “Pit Bull”:
-AADR/ADBA/APDR/Sporting Dog registered or registered under a similar registry
-Matches this standardhttp://www.adbadog.com/uploads/conformation%20_%20weightpull%20pic/2008%20conformationBreakdwn.pdf
-Is working bred, and you know that for a fact
-High drive
-You have the dog’s pedigree, know how to read it, and it does not trace back to any American Staffordshire Terrier
-The pedigree traces back to fighting dogs (yeah, I said it. If there aren’t fighting dogs in your pedigree, you don’t own a Pit Bull)

Honestly, unless you purchsed your dogDIRECTLY from an APBT breeder who exclusively breeds working stock with pedigrees on hand and ADBA (or the like) registered dogs, then by christ, DON’T CALL YOUR MUTT A PIT BULL.

What is your dog if it isn’t a Pit Bull?
Possibly a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, maybe an American Staffordshire Terrier, could be an American Bulldog, quite likely an American Bully, or probably just a bull-breed mix.
Above are a couple sets of pictures, side-by-side examples, of breeds frequently (and improperly) labeled as “Pit Bulls”, along with the only REAL “Pit Bull” (the American Pit Bull Terrier).

Questions or comments, feel free to ask. After many years with the TRUE Pit Bull breed, I’m more than qualified and happy to help

I agree with part of this but the part about meeting ADBA/AADR/etc standards is bull shit. The APBT is a WORKING DOG not a SHOW DOG. If you have a dog bred for show I don’t care what standard it fits, calling it an American Pit Bull Terrier is a disgrace to the breed. The APBT is not made to be bred for looks.

Also, there are gamedogs with AmStaffs back in their pedigree several generations, and they’re more APBT than any “well bred” ADBA showdog will ever be.

An old dogman saying: “It’s not how the dog is bred, it’s WHO BRED IT and WHY!”
